Warring sides refuse to show up as Sudan peace talks begin

Efforts to get fresh peace talks underway to resolve Sudan’s 16-month long war have run into trouble after neither of the warring factions turned up.

The Sudanese army had already warned that it would boycott the talks in Switzerland.

Although the rival Rapid Support Forces had agreed to attend, they failed to enter the room at the last minute.

Thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced by the months of bitter fighting.
