France faces spectre of hung parliament as voting wraps up in parliamentary election
Here political stability has returned but France faces the opposite.
Polls close in less than an hour. Turnout has been high. The result is either the first populist right wing government since World War Two or the chaos of a hung parliament.
Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally came out top in the first round a week ago. But it may well fall short of a majority – after President Macron’s centrist Together alliance and the left-wing New Popular Front coalition withdrew more than 200 candidates from three-way races to unite against the far right.
