Iran elects reformist Masoud Pezeshkian as new president
The reformist Masoud Pezeshkian has been elected as Iran’s new president – after winning a run-off against a conservative hardliner – with 53% of the vote.
The former heart surgeon has promised to reach out to the West along with an end to Iran’s isolation from the rest of the world.
The United States said the elections had neither been free nor fair – and said they didn’t expect any fundamental change.
