More than 114 killed as mass protests sweep Bangladesh

Bangladesh is under a strict ‘shoot at sight’ curfew this weekend following clashes between police and demonstrators that have left more than a 114 people dead.

Internet and mobile services have been blocked since Thursday as the authorities seek to quell the unrest.

Protests started a few weeks ago, with students venting their anger about a policy which reserves a third of government jobs for relatives of those who fought for Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971.
