Starmer to warn ‘unpopular decisions’ needed to improve UK

The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is to warn that things will get worse before they get better.

He’ll use a speech on Tuesday to claim that the Conservatives left the economy in a state that was “worse than we ever imagined” – and it would take “unpopular decisions” to rebuild.

But he’s under pressure within his party to increase spending.
