NHS regulator ‘not fit for purpose’ says Health Secretary

The Health Secretary has announced a series of emergency measures after a damning review into the body which inspects NHS hospitals, GP surgeries and care homes in England.

Wes Streeting said he was shocked by the scale of the failings at the Care Quality Commission, including a severe lack of clinical expertise and a backlog which left one hospital without being assessed for more than 10 years.
